EAK 2000

The safety of buildings and structures in general is undoubtedly the main and decisive factor in protecting the lives and property of citizens in the event of an earthquake.
The Anti-Seismic Regulation is the basic tool for the design and construction of buildings and technical works, enabling them to safely withstand the strong stresses caused by earthquakes.
The first Greek Anti-Seismic Regulation was established and implemented in 1959. In 1984, additional provisions were established and implemented. At the same time, the OASP began the process of drafting the New Greek Anti-Seismic Regulations (NEAK), which came into force in 1995.
The current edition of the Greek Anti-Seismic Regulations – EAK 2000 is a revision of NEAK after four years of implementation. This revision includes amendments and additions that were deemed necessary:
1. following significant observations, comments, and scientific opinions expressed during the implementation of NEAK.
2. for adaptation to the corresponding Eurocodes EC8 (Seismic) and EC7 (Foundations).
The Organization for Earthquake Planning & Protection (O.A.S.P.) and the Association of Civil Engineers of Greece (Σ.Π.Μ.Ε.) in an effort to inform Greek engineers about the production of modern and safe structures, are publishing this issue of EAK 2000, which is distributed free of charge to civil engineers.
In order to support the important professional and scientific work of its 16,000 members, the leading designers and producers of the country’s residential and construction wealth, plans various joint activities and co-organises events with the O.A.S.P., such as the compilation and publication of reliable manuals with examples of the application of the Regulation, the organization of special information/training seminars throughout the country, the organization of the 2nd Conference on “EARTHQUAKES & CONSTRUCTIONS,” forming and training special volunteer teams of civil engineers who will staff the appropriate crews in the event of an earthquake, electronic information via the internet for civil engineers on issues of earthquake-resistant design and protection.
This issue was edited by the S.P.M.E., and the relevant production and printing costs were covered by the O.A.S.P.
