The government is restarting and redesigning the “Home Energy Saving” program.

The government is restarting and redesigning the “Home Energy Saving” program with the aim of including energy-efficient glass panes and all related product categories.
This was decided during a meeting between Secretary General for Industry Yannis Tolios, Secretary General for Energy and Mineral Resources Apostolos Alexopoulos, representatives of the Panhellenic Federation of Glass Manufacturers & Craftsmen (POEBY) and officials.
During the meeting, proposals by the Federation aimed at upgrading the sector and improving the energy efficiency of buildings were discussed, contributing to sustainable development through the use of improved energy-efficient glass products, such as:
- the use of energy-efficient glass in all public buildings, with the aim of saving energy within the framework of Directive 2012/27/EU on the energy performance of buildings,
- the use of third-generation energy-efficient glass with a low solar control coefficient (g-value) in all new and subsidized tourist facilities in order to save electricity,
- the obligation to use certified glass panes with CE marking for safety purposes.
- the reactivation of funding programs such as: “Saving at Home,” “Building the Future,” “Green Neighborhoods,”
- the implementation of a funding program for the replacement of window panes instead of providing a heating allowance.
The resumption of the “Save at Home” program is being considered by the Ministry of Economy, Infrastructure, Maritime Affairs and Tourism, as indicated in a document from the Special Secretariat for the Management of ERDF and TA Funds, which was communicated to MP Mr. Charakidis in response to a relevant question he had submitted on April 7, 2015.
As stated in the document, this program is also a priority for the new programming period 2014-2020. The Special Secretariat states in its response that, in cooperation and consultation with the relevant bodies, the preparatory work has begun for the launch of a new program similar to “Energy Saving at Home.”
Specifically, the response states that the following have been done so far:
- Utilization of proposals from stakeholders
- The completion of the previous evaluation of the financial instrument
- Completion of actions relating to the obligation to fully transpose Directives 2010/31/EU and 2012/27/EU into national law.
- Finally, the document points out that, with regard to the payment of beneficiaries of the current “Home Energy Saving,” the necessary steps have been taken and the pending final disbursement applications throughout the country are expected to be paid out in the near future.
