How are landowners at risk of losing their property due to forest maps?
The situation with forest maps is causing serious problems for many property owners, as their land is classified as forest land even if it does not meet the criteria.

Despite the amendments to the legislation in 2021 (Article 48 of Law 4685/2020) and the decisions of the Council of State (1464-1365/2021), which ruled the changes lawful, forest maps remain outdated, leading to baseless claims.
The State relies on the classifications of certified forest maps, claiming private land as forest land, arguing that forests and forest areas belong to it by default. However, this designation presupposes the complete legality of the maps, which is not currently the case.
The competent authorities were required to proceed with the reorganization and adaptation of forest maps in accordance with the new provisions and decisions of the Council of State. This inaction allows lawsuits and claims to continue, causing concern and financial burden to citizens, while the areas designated as forest often do not even meet the criteria that applied to their designation.
There is an urgent need for immediate action to protect owners from unfair property losses under legislation that is no longer being properly enforced.
